Chairs, Chairs, Chairs

I volunteered to collaborate with students from the Camosun College Fine Furniture program to create a promotional video for their end-of-year exhibition, “Chairs, Chairs, Chairs.”

As a graduate of the program myself, I have a deep appreciation for the hard work that goes into the final capstone project. We often see the finished piece but rarely the prototypes, tools, and machinery behind it; the mistakes and breakthroughs that shaped it along the way. Offering a glimpse into that process felt meaningful, particularly for audiences unfamiliar with working with wood.

The students had recorded short clips for documentation purposes, which they shared with me alongside their poster design and illustrations. From there, I edited the footage, animated the graphics and illustrations, and layered original audio with an instrumental track, checking in with the students at each stage for their input. The result was a 30-second promotional video used across social media; one the students were thrilled with, and one I hope will encourage future students to document their own creative journeys.

Poster design and illustrations by Ottilie Short.

Video documentation by Eldie Forget and students.
