I was commissioned by Metropol Industries, a printshop in Victoria BC, to design a custom poster for a large lightbox at their downtown location. They wanted something bright and fun to welcome people in to the store.

At the time, summer was fading, and leaves were falling. There were piles of leaves everywhere. I had the idea of a Leaf Monster eating the falling leaves and growing fatter and happier. The leaves are hand-drawn with ink using a pointillism technique. They were scanned, and then coloured and layered in Adobe Illustrator to create the final character.

Leaf Monster looked so bright and happy on the street and he received a very positive response from the public. I was later commissioned to design wallpaper with a repeat leaf pattern for Metropol’s printshop and design office.
